COSPONOR HR 3575 SAFE ACT

Wild horses and burros are protected under law from being slaughtered for commercial products. However, once title is transferred through adoption or sale they lose their status as “wild” under law and are subjected to the current lack of protection faced by all domestic horses in the U.S.

Learn more about how “title transfer” opens the door for our wild horses to enter the horse-meat slaughter trade and our wild burros to enter the illegal global trade in donkey hides (Ejaio). Click Here.

The SAFE Act has been introduced each year for over a decade receiving hundreds of cosponsors. Each year, the bill gets blocked from going for a floor vote that, if passed, would make the SAFE Act law.

We know many of you feel discouraged. We hope you do not give up. Change in policy and law does not come about rapidly… it involves constant vigilance and fortitude.

We hope you take the time to take action today. Our American horses need your voice.

The SAFE ACT is intended to stop the slaughter of horses in the U.S. If the Act passes, it will not only be illegal to slaughter horses in the U.S. for commercial product, it will be illegal to ship them for the purpose of slaughter outside the U.S.

You can also call your reps and say:

“Please cosponsor HR 3575, Save America’s Forgotten Equines Act of 2023. Americans have historically rejected eating our treasured equines and most find exporting our horses for others to consume abhorrent. As a constituent, I urge you to cosponsor this important legislation and work to bring it to the floor for passage into law. Thank you.”
